Wigs and Hair Replacement Frequent Questions

I'm going to start chemotherapy soon. When should I start looking for a wig?
As soon as you know you "could" suffer any hair loss, call and make an appointment (before any hair loss) to see a trained hair replacement professional. It is far easier for them to advise you when they can see your current style, hair type and color. Please note that color and texture can appear very different after the hair loss begins.

Can I go to my regular hair stylist to get my wig?
The majority of hair stylists does not work with wigs and are not familiar with the great variety available. Ask them to recommend a reputable Hair Replacement Studio if they do not deal with wigs.

My hair seems thin on the top, but the sides and back are very thick. Should I get a wig?
Many times with this condition known as MPB (Male Pattern Baldness) a partial piece can be a much better solution. This condition appears in women and men primarily due to hormonal changes, however is not age related. Some very young women can have this. Make an appointment with a professional who works with customizing partial pieces as you will get the counseling you need as to what is available and suitable. Our Master Stylist, Ellie Wondorw is an expert with partial pieces. Call to schedule a free consultation with her.

Do I have to bring my wig in the salon to be fixed?
In most cases the wigs today are easily handled by the client. They hold their style well after proper cleaning and conditioning. Very seldom is it necessary for a salon visit.

Do I have to be afraid of losing my wig when I wear it?
If the proper wig size is chosen and the correct fitting/alterations are done, it should "fit like a glove." There will be no chance of insecurity.

I get many catalogs in the mail with much cheaper prices than wig salons charge for their merchandise. Why is there such a difference in price?
All first class manufacturers have quality control standards to which products must conform. If pieces do not meet these standards, in all ways, they are sold at liquidation prices to discount retailers. In general these wigs are not necessarily bad wigs, but may not conform exactly to proper sizing, coloring etc, so no two may necessarily be exactly alike.

In addtion, we have experienced staff to consult with you as well as properly fit your wig. If you have ever purchased a wig that is too large (falling down on your forehead) or too small (giving you a headache) you will appreciate the expereince and fitting expertise of our staff - and will understand why our wigs are not the same price as those you may find online or in a catalog.  Our customers als appreciate having the opportunity to actually try the wig on and see how the style actually looks on them - not just in their imagination!

I have ordered wigs through a catalog and they don't look anything like the picture. Why is this?
First of all, when any retailer, discount or otherwise, makes a catalog, they hire a professional camera crew and a professional to arrange whatever it is they are selling. In this case they have a professional wig stylist to make sure everything looks perfect. In general, it is helpful to have the experience of a trained professional to make your wig perfect for you. Call Healing Touch Spa & Salon to schedule and appointment with one of our wig experts and she will be able to fit a wig correctly as well as cut and style it for you.

I'm not Caucasian, do you sell wigs for people of color?

Absolutely!  Our fulltime wig consultant, Lisa Perteete, is of African American descent and our Hair Stylist,Van Tang, is of Asian descent - so we have staff for you to work with who have personal experience with different hair textures   We have a large variety of colors and styles to complement your skin color and facial features.
